Launched in 1967, Coin Prices magazine is published every other month by Krause Publications, a wholly owned subsidiary of F+W Media. Each of the six issues includes 60+ pages of updated U.S. coin pricing, featuring the full listing of 1793 through modern-day circulation, proof and commemorative coinage.
Every issue includes retail values for these coins in various states of preservation, making it easy to locate a value on anything from a heavily worn coin to an uncirculated coin. Information is also provided in each series as to designer; years of issue; major design types; and coin specifications, such as diameter, weight, metallic composition, and original mintage.
Editor Bob Van Ryzin has been overseeing the production of the magazine for the past 13 years. Van Ryzin is also the editor of three books; Striking Impressions: A Visual Guide to Collecting U.S. Coins (1992); Twisted Tails: Sifted Fact, Fantasy and Fiction from U.S. Coin History (1995); and Crime of 1873: The Comstock Connection (2001).
A one to three page U.S. coin grading guide is generally found in each issue of Coin Prices, entitled "As We See It". The column is written by market analyst, Harry Miller, and offers coverage of what's happening in the numismatic marketplace.
The March annual issue includes feature articles and pricing for Canadian and Mexican coin prices along with U.S. paper money values. The May issue provides the latest in Canadian coin prices, and the July issue does the same with Mexican coin values.
