This week's featured coin is a 5 pound issue commemorating the 40th anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
Elizabeth II ascended the throne in February of 1952, after the death of her father King George VI.
In addition to the United Kingdom, Elizabeth II is also Queen of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, in each of which she is represented by a Governor-General.
The obverse of the coin features a laureate head facing right within a circl of bugling horesemen. The reverse shows a crown within a circle and the legend "Faith and Truth Will Bear Unto You".
1,835,000 coins were minted with a value of $13.50 to $15.00. Also, 100,000 coins were minted in proof condition with a value of $18.50.
