Louis D'or

This week's featured coin is a 16th century Louis D'or gold piece featuring the image of Lous XV, who ruled France from 1715 to 1774. He took the throne at the age of five, and reigned until 13 when his great uncle Philippe, duc d'Orléans took control of the government.

The obverse shows a laureate head of the young king facing right, while the reverse shows the round arms of France at the center of an 8-pointed cross. The mintage figures for this coin are unknown, and the value ranges from $300 in VG condition to $2,150 in XF condition.
