This week's featured coin is a one dollar silver piece commemorating the XI Commonwealth Games. The XI games were held in 1978 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
The Commonwealth Games are a mulit-national event held every four years, and about 5,000 athletes from Commonwealth nations participate.
The obverse of the coin features a young right facing bust of Queen Elizabeth II, ruler of the Commonwealth of Nations. The reverse of the coin shows depictions of various sports, surrounding the logo of the XI games. The reverse was designed by Raymond Taylor.
