This week's featured coin is a finnish commemorative celebrating opera singer Aino Ackte.
Ackte studied music at the Paris Conservatory and went on to enjoy a storied career in Europe. In 1911 she founded the Kotimainen Ooppera (the predecessor to the Finnish National Opera) with two colleges, and went on to serve as director in 1938 and 1939. Ackte died of pancreatic cancer in Nummela Vihti in August of 1944.
The obverse of the coin features a partial stylized portrait of Ackte, while the reverse shows a high heel boot and a trouser bottom. Both sides of the coin were designed by Timo Rytkönen.
33,000 coins were minted with a value of $40.00 US in BU condition.
