Hudson is a city located along the east bank of the Hudson River in Columbia County, New York and is named after explorer Henry Hudson. The land comprising the city was purchased in 1662 from the native Mahicans indians of the area by Dutch settlers. It was originally considered part of the Town of Claverack. The city grew rapidly and by 1790 was the 8th largest city in the United States, and by 1820, it was the fourth largest city in New York State.
Today the city is known for its destinctive arts scene, antiques shops, restaurants, art galleries and nightlife.
