The nation got a look at the West Point Mint June 5 when Acting Mint Director Richard A. Peterson opened its doors to the news media.

Media Day was part of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of West Point.

Peterson congratulated Plant Manager Ellen McCullom and her West Point team for the productivity gains achieved in the last five years at the facility.

He said production for gold and silver bullion coins has soared to a record pace of over 45 million ounces for 2013 from just under 8 million ounces in 2007, all while lowering costs.
