Designs for the Code Talker Recognition Congressional Medal Program were reviewed June 25 by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee when it met at U.S. Mint Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The CCAC endorsed designs for medals honoring the Cherokee Nation, Meskwaki Nation, Seminole Nation, Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribe, Ho-Chunk Nation, Oglala Sioux Nation and Yankton Sioux Tribe.

In every instance, the committee endorsed the design preferred by the tribe, said CCAC Chairman Gary Marks, although a few minor changes were requested for some designs.

The Code Talker designs often reflect the patches that signify each tribe or nation.

“That can be challenging for designers,” Marks said, trying to translate a fabric object into a medallic object.”

The CCAC endorsed the following designs. Points are based on a possible 27.
