Nancy Wilson, Mack Martin, Neil Shafer, and many other Memphis regulars took home exhibit honors at this year’s International Paper Money Show, June 13-16 at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis.

Wilson won the Society of Paper Money Collectors’ Julian Blanchard Award for her exhibit, ‘Series of 1928, Ecuador Specimen Set.”

Martin received the Stephen R. Taylor Best in Show Exhibit Award from the SPMC for “Athens, Ga.: The Early Days – Antebellum Banks.” He also won the Bill Sharp Best Obsolete Currency Exhibit Award from the Memphis Coin Club.

The SPMC gave honorable mentions to Shawn Hewitt for his exhibit on “Large Size Replacement Notes” and to Jerry Fochtman for “Fractional Currency Paper.”

Shafer received the Amon Carter Award from the International Bank Note Society for his exhibit, “For The First Time Ever...,” a display of three Philippine notes series dated 1941: a one, five, and 10 pesos. The three notes, which constitute a complete set of notes processed by the Bureau of Standards in 1943 to simulate used currency, have never been shown together before because the five and 10 pesos are not available.

First-time Memphis exhibitor Steve Carr garnered two awards. Carr was presented the John Hickman National Bank Note Exhibit Award from the Professional Currency Dealers Association and he was honored by this publication with the Bank Note Reporter Most Inspirational Exhibit Award. Carr’s winning exhibit was titled “First Names on Kansas National Bank Notes.”

Edward Galligan accepted the Mike Crabb Best in Show Award from the MCC for “State and National Banks of the County of Putnam, N.Y.”
