Dollar to Soar, Then Fail|
August 06, 2013
Investment guru Jim Rogers predicted failure of the U.S. dollar by 2020.
On Aug. 1 internationally famous investor Jim Rogers was interviewed on local Lansing, Mich., radio station 1320 WILS AM.
Why should we listen to him? For one thing, he has an impressive investment record.
With George Soros, Rogers was a co-founder of the Quantum Fund in 1973. This was one of the first truly international funds, which realized gains of 4,200 percent over the first 10 years at a time when the Standard & Poors 500 Index only rose 47 percent. Rogers is included in a recent list of the 99 greatest investors of all time.
When asked about currencies, Rogers predicted that the U.S. dollar will fail before the end of this decade. The reasons for his prediction included the massive inflation of the money supply, masked by calling it quantitative easing, and the huge overspending by the U.S. government.
Having said that, however, Rogers also explained that he anticipates that the U.S. dollar will be temporarily strong compared to other currencies for a time that may last as long as the next two years. In the near future, Rogers expects tremendous global financial volatility which will increase investor worries about preserving their capital. He anticipates that a significant number of investors will flee to the U.S. dollar in the short term as a perceived safe harbor.
In other questions, Rogers reiterated his confidence that the overall bull market in commodities still has a long way to run.
