Blame it on the much delayed new $100 Federal Reserve Note, which will be introduced on Oct. 8, for the Mint’s tentative plans to unveil the winning obverse design for next year’s Baseball Hall of Fame gold $5, silver dollar and clad half dollar.

The baseball event is scheduled for the afternoon of the same date on Capitol Hill, but it might need to be changed.

The challenge is juggling the schedules of Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, the board of directors of the Baseball Hall of Fame and the congressional members responsible for the authorizing legislation are the challenge.

A $5,000 check will go to the winning designer.
