Sales of silver American Eagle bullion coins rose by over 26 percent in 2013 from 2012 levels.

When the final sales numbers were tallied by the U.S. Mint 42,675,000 silver Eagles had been sold.

This a new record output and compares to 33,742,500 coins sold in 2012 and the previous record year of 2011 when 39,868,500 were sold.

Sales in 2013 were more than four times what they were in 2007 when just 9,887,000 silver Eagles were sold.

In 2008 sales were 19,583,500. In 2009 the figure was 28,766,500 and in 2010 it was 34,662,500.

In 2014, sales of silver Eagles will begin Jan. 13. In January of 2013, the Mint sold 7,498,000 silver Eagles. Demand in 2014 is expected to be high though it remains to be seen if January sales will exceed the 2013 monthly number.
