2014 Silver Eagle Sales Near 4 Million Mark|
January 24, 2014
January sales of silver American Eagle bullion coins have nearly reached 4 million. As of Jan. 22 figures, the Mint has sold 3,969,000 coins to its Authorized Purchasers.
Sales for the month will not equal the 7,498,000 achieved in January of 2013. Once again, sales are more a reflection of Mint capacity issues rather than lower buyer demand.
Silver bullion coin sales did not begin until Jan. 13 and because of record high demand for the coins in 2013 the Mint did not have an opportunity to build up as large a supply as was available at the beginning of last year.
Sales of one-ounce gold American Eagles also look likely to be lower than the 124,500 pieces sold in January of 2013. As of Jan. 22, the Mint had vended 60,500 of the 2014 coins.
The Mint has sold 12,000 half-ounce coins compared to 17,000 in all of January 2013.
Results for 2014 quarter-ounce and tenth ounce already exceed 2013 results. Some 28,000 quarter-ounce coins have been sold compared to 24,000 in the full month last year. For tenth-ounce, the numbers are 150,000 compared to 110,000 last year.
Gold Buffalo numbers are 41,000 so far this year compared to 72,500 in all of January 2013.
