Smoky Mountain Quarter Launches|
February 12, 2014
A winter snow both delayed and emphasized the introduction of the 2014 Great Smoky Mountains National Park quarter Jan. 29 in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
More than 300 persons, including 40 kids, braved the elements to attend a launch ceremony that began an hour and a half late.
National Park Acting Superintendent Pedro Ramos joined U.S. Mint Acting Associate Director of Manufacturing Dave Croft for the launch and a ceremonial coin pour introducing the 21st design of the America the Beautiful series.
“This new quarter reflects the nation’s continuing fascination with the beauty, diversity, and romantic mists of Great Smoky Mountains National Park,” said Croft.
A total of $20,000 in quarters was exchanged for face value at the event by Citizens National Bank.
A three-roll set of PDS quarters is $46.95 plus $4.95 handling at www.usmint.gov.
