In 1995 the first Chicago Paper Money Exposition was held at the Ramada O’Hare Hotel on Mannheim Road in Rosemont. Two decades later, the hotel is about four miles south and the exhibitors’ hair may be a bit grayer, but CPMX is still going strong.

This year’s 20th anniversary show is slated for March 6-9 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare in Rosemont, Ill.

“Twenty years is a significant anniversary for any event, and we’re happy so many familiar faces will be at CPMX to share it with us,” said convention chairman Scott Tappa. “Looking back at the bourse listing for the first show you see lots of folks who are still coming: Keith Bauman, Dave Cieniewicz, Tom Denly, Don Fisher, Larry Falater, Lee Gordon, Richard Horst, Tim Kyzivat, Glen Jorde, Ian Marshall—that only covers part of the alphabet. There are lots of other longtime, loyal CPMX supporters and we thank them.”

CPMX exhibitors and attendees but longtime and new will be greeted by a bourse filled with leading paper money firms from around the country. The show has earned quite a reputation outside U.S. borders as well.

“In early February I was at the World Money Fair in Berlin, and met several people who inquired about CPMX,” said Tappa. “They said they heard the show was a good one, and we humbly agreed.”

As always, an outstanding auction is a focal point for CPMX. Lyn Knight has put together another fantastic sale covering a wide range of currency. A world paper money session comes first, followed by a U.S. currency section featuring the Mel Wilmore collection of fancy serial numbers, capped by a U.S. currency session of national bank notes and large size type notes.

CPMX will again be held at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare, set just minutes away from the Windy City’s international airport and a stone’s throw from several major freeways. The Crowne Plaza has been thoroughly renovated in the past few years, from sleeping rooms to the ballroom in which the event is held to the restaurant, and is a comfortable place to spend a few days in early March.

Krause Publications’ paper money editors and experts will be in attendance at CPMX, including Bank Note Reporter editor Bob Van Ryzin, Standard Catalog of World Paper Money editor George Cuhaj and U.S. paper money market analyst Bill Brandimore.

CPMX marks the beginning of an exciting year for KP’s paper money products and services. Perhaps the most exciting is the relaunch this year of, which will incorporate our world-class paper money pricing and identification data with our U.S. and world coin data, along with wholesale U.S. coin pricing.

“We are very excited about the relaunch, and think you will be too — watch for details from KP in the coming months,” said Tappa.

The Crowne Plaza will also be the site of another leading specialty numismatic event in April: the Chicago International Coin Fair, scheduled for April 10-13. Featuring a massive Heritage auction of world and ancient coins and an active bourse floor, CICF promises to be one of spring’s most exciting events.

The 21st annual Chicago Paper Money Expo will be held March 5-8, 2015, at the Crowne Plaza O’Hare. For more information visit
