How Many Millions Will 1804 Silver Dollar Bring?
By David C. Harper March 03, 2008 |

If you want an 1804 silver dollar, it is not every day that one of the 15 known comes on the market. That day is coming soon.
Be prepared to pay a multi-million dollar price. The question is how many million dollars will you have to pay?
Heritage will put one of the eight known Class I pieces on the block at its official Central States Numismatic Society sale in April 15-19. It is graded Proof-62 by NGC.
For the price, though, your name goes in the history books.
- For the first time since the beginning of the First Spouse gold coin program, two offers are being made simultaneously by the U.S. Mint. Dolley Madison is still on sale. Elizabeth Monroe has been newly added.
The prices are different. Monroe costs $619.95 for the proof while the Madison is $90 cheaper at $529.95. The uncirculated Monroe is $599.95 and the Madison is $509.95.
- Another grading service has a new owner. PCI was purchased by David Lawrence Rare Coins.
- The District of Columbia tried to make a political statement with its three suggested quarter designs for 2009 and the Mint rejected them.
