Mint Stats: Lincoln Birthplace Cent Roll Set Sells Well

There is more space to write in this week because the list of mintages of last year's proof and uncirculated gold, silver and platinum collector versions of the American Eagle coinage and the proof and uncirculated gold collector versions of the Buffalo coinage have been removed.

It was time because sales have been stopped for some while now and until the Mint catches up with demand for the one-ounce investor gold and silver American Eagles, the 2009 collector versions will not make an appearance.

This is policy that was set last autumn, but because the U.S. Mint made a few new notations on its Web site to let people know not to look for the new issues, a chatter went up online for a few days that the Mint had changed policy again and it was another sign of the overwhelming demand for bullion coinage.

Well, to borrow the words of Saturday Night Live from three decades ago, Gen. Francisco Franco is still dead and the Mint's policy is still the Mint's policy. Demand for bullion is high, but Mint policy changes aren't the reason.

Speaking of high demand, the Lincoln cent rolls are doing very well. Sales in the past week jumped by half to 97,149. Combined Lincoln commem sales are just 2,132 shy of 450,000.

Do these statistics go through March 22nd or 23rd?  The box that normally contains that piece of information was removed along with the 2008 collector bullion figures.  It's not a big deal, I was just wondering for my own knowledge.  Thanks!

The 2009 Silver Lincoln $1 Commemorative Unc. sold out on 26 March, 2009.. the Proofs are still available, but I guess you already know that.. what I don't understand is, weren't the 500,000 legislated coins (with 50,000 Proofs held back for a special set later.. leaving 450,000 to be sold as singles since there's no two-coin set).. weren't the 450,000 "across all options" as with most all past Modern Commemoratives?.. Or did the Mint allocate x number for Proofs and x number for Uncs?.. Otherwise, how could the Uncs. be marked as "SOLD OUT" and moved to their no longer available page, but the Proofs are still available?..

I would like to express my displeasure with the way that The U.S. Mint abruptly ceased the availability of the 2009 "Birthplace" Lincoln Cent Two-Roll Set after only 13 days!

I have no idea why the Mint decided to do this, but they are doing a great disservice to customers like myself who were planning on purchasing these coin rolls.

Because of the low production numbers of the ?Birthplace? Lincoln Cent Two-Roll Set and the abrupt end of availability from the Mint, they are now only available from aftermarket sources who are charging anywhere from $75 to $150 for these rolls!

Just like they do with the State and Territorial quarter rolls, the U. S. Mint should offer these Lincoln Cent Two-Roll Sets for sale through the end of their mintage run!
