Mint Stats: Lincoln Commems and Cent Rolls Sell Out
 | By David C. Harper, Numismatic News April 01, 2009 |

For all practical purposes, the Lincoln commemorative silver dollars offered individually have sold out. They have passed the 450,000 originally allocated for these sales options.
Interestingly, if you add up the current sales totals, the amount is 465,614, which is 15,614 over the ceiling. The Mint was taking provisional sales for those who wish to get in line in case some other sales fall through due to expired credit cards, cancellations and the like.
Does the Mint expect more than 15,000 orders to go away like that? We don't get reports on order failure rates. However, if the Mint wanted to cut down the number of sets offered this summer, having these extra orders in hand would be a way to go about it.
The two-roll cent set sold out at just under 100,000.
Bullion sales took a big jump in the final week of March. Both the gold one-ounce American Eagle and the silver ounce nearly doubled. If the Mint could keep up the silver pace, it would nearly double last year's output. How long will the intense demand for these coins continue?
Sales of the Ultra High Relief Saint-Gaudens $20 are slowing down. Hardly more than 1,000 additional coins were sold this week.
