Mint Stats: Numbers Soar for Second Lincoln Roll Set

2009 formative years lincoln cent design

It is a good thing that sales numbers for the second 2009 Lincoln cent roll set are available this week, because otherwise things are kind of summertime sleepy - and the calendar says it is not even summer yet.

In the first three days of sales, more than twice as many Lincoln roll sets have been sold. The precise count is 200,055. It took almost two weeks for the first roll set to hit the 96,000 maximum.

How many roll sets will be ordered? Judging from the number of e-mails I have received, the numbers should jump a good bit further, depending on how many the Mint will be able to supply.

The Mint Web site already has the notation that shipping of the Lincoln rolls commences July 15.

January's hot item, the Ultra High Relief $20 gold piece, hardly moved up in sales numbers this week, with the total creeping forwarded by much less than 1,000 coins.

The six-coin D.C. and Territories proof set rose by 8,016 and the silver version jumped by 11,006. The silver set is not more popular; it has simply been available for less time.

Braille sales numbers have also done nothing particularly noteworthy, but then the summerlike pace is apparent.

Bullion Eagle numbers didn't change at all, but I don't think bullion investors have gone on vacation, so let's meet here again next week to see what happens.

There wouldn't have been anywhere NEAR that many "Formative Years" roll sets sold if everyone had known the Mint was going to sell so many.  What happened to the unofficial limit of 100,000 sets I read about somewhere?  We all got duped.  Let's see how many sets of "Professional Life" rolls will be sold in August!  I bet the Mint's online store won't be bogged down then!

Hi
I'm not sure if I asked this question before but in case I didn't address it here it goes:
I have been checking with 3 of the main credit unions in San Antonio for some time concerning the availability of the the new territorial quarters; specifically Puerto Rico and others and if they have any news on available to the general public.  They all have the same response. "No" and they have not been notified by the mint on when they would arrive.  I am asking if I am "spinning my wheels" in waiting for them to arrive.
Please, if you could, let me know if the mint will or will or will not ship them as they have done before with the state quarters.

Appreciate any info,

Jim Miller

Jim,

The first two designs in the U.S. Territories Quarter series have already been released, and what exists is already out there.  Due to mintage levels far below even the lowest-minted 50 State Quarter design, not all locations that had the State Quarters are going to have the U.S. Territories Quarters.  If your sources in San Antonio did not receive the District of Columbia or Puerto Rico quarters by now, they likely never will.  A lot of my local banks that used to have the state quarters are not receiving any of the territories quarters, but fortunately for me a few of them still managed come up with some, so I've been able to get them so far.  As mintage levels continue to fall however, I might end up coming up empty myself before it's all over.

I hope you have success in finding a new source!

I was surprised to see the first 2009 Lincoln "Log Cabin" cents roll sets sales cut off at 96,000.. of course, now they're going for moon money on eBay.. so, expecting The Mint to follow the same routine.. I jumped on the second "Formative Years" rolls, ordered a couple of pairs, and although The US Mint said they were back-ordered with an expected shipping date of mid-July, 2009, they just charged me for the order overnight, and my order history now says "in stock and reserved" and the cancel box is gone.. as far as I know, in the USA, a merchant, by law, (unless that law has changed).. has to ship within thirty days of charging one's CC.. who knows when they'll actually ship my order, or when they'll cut-off sales, but I suspect a lot of folks who thought there'd be a repeat of the early cut-off of the "Log Cabin" rolls will be cancelling their orders for the "Formative Years" rolls, and perhaps the final sales figure will be much lower than what's been reported.. or not.. trying to find these rolls at a bank is a worthless pursuit.. of course, they'll all be in the 2009 US Mint set, which will have, what, a bajillion coins in it?..
