On March 8 the Royal Spanish Mint released for sale the seventh series of collector coins in the Europa Program. Under the theme, “European Heritage,” the two-coin issue is dedicated to Antoni Gaudí, a Spanish Catalan architect who belonged to the Modernist style movement and was famous for his unique and individualistic designs.

The issue consists of a .999 gold 4-escudos coin that caries a face value of 200 euros and a .925 silver 8-reales coin that has a face value of 10 euros.

The obverse portrays the likeness of H.M. King Juan Carlos I. The reverse features Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia temple in Barcelona. To the left is a depiction of Gaudí in an oval with “Antoni Gaudí” underneath. Below this is the common mark adopted by the countries that will be issuing coins dedicated to the series. The mintmark is below the denomination.

The gold 200 euro weighs 13.5 grams, measures 30 mm in diameter and has a mintage of 3,000. The silver 10 euro weighs 27 grams, is 40 mm in diameter and carries a mintage of 12,000.
